Introduction
The Victorian Amateur Martial Arts Association (“VAMAA”) Interclub Challenge is a training day for participants in combat sports who are not registered competitors, referees and judges with any amateur or professional organisation and wish to gain experience in these three fields.
Training is provided whereby participants may elect to spar, referee or judge in simulated bouts. As the bouts are only simulated, participants involved in sparring are encouraged to demonstate skill in their combat sport. Signifcant physical contact during the bout is not permitted.
The decision of the judges is for training purposes only and is unofficial. Both participants engaged in sparring during the day receive participation trophies. The simulated bouts are of 2 x 90 seconds duration.
Sparring in simulated bouts is available in 3 categories:
(i) Class A – Hand Strikes
(ii) Class B – Kickboxing
(iii) Class C – Modified Thai.
In regard to Class B and C, participants are not permitted to use kicks, knee or elbow strikes to the head.
